They have all the talent in the world, are led by a captain who is a potential MVP candidate and once sported the best record in the NHL. So why are the Chicago Blackhawks heading the wrong way in the standings?
Joel Quenneville's squad has now gone winless in six straight -- dating back to well before the All-Star break. In that time, they've plummeted all the way down to the sixth seed in the Western Conference. It's no secret they'd like to add some defense before the deadline, but what can they do with the roster they currently have?
As ESPN's Craig Custance contends, it's the details that are hurting the 'Hawks right now. They're not winning the little battles that ultimately sway a game in their direction. What's worse, they've given up a power play goal in each of the last six games in which they've taken a penalty. It also doesn't help that they're in the midst of a nine-game road trip.
Still, with this team, one little move here or there could set them rolling again. There's too much talent to think they'll just quietly fall off the map.
